The Alliance for American Quilts is having a crazy quilt contest. I'm not really a crazy quilter, but submissions are 16" X 16" so I figured it was worth a shot.
For all those interested, you can find more information here.
Crazy quilting began in the Victorian era as a way to showcase a woman's embroidery skills. So naturally, crazy quilts are characterized by heavy embroidery, but also irregular piecing.
I embroidered all of my seams first, and when it came time to make my tree branch I just worked over my previous stitches. It worked amazingly well. Tune in next week to see more embroidered tree branches :-)

Great! I am glad you could use the scraps!
Very cool concept!! I'll be checking back to see your piece develop.
That's a lot of embroidery you've done!
I, too, will really enjoy watching this unfold.
Esther, i'm so impressed with your incredibly straight piecing and love the way your working in organic shapes over the geometric pieces. I'm a novice quilter and draw a lot of inspiration from seeing the contest quilts in progress. Thanks so much for participating in and promoting the contest!
best,
Amy Milne
